Term 2 Project for Telecommunications 1

Students must work in groups to write a 5-7 page screenplay for a video wherein the character or characters need to solve a simple problem. Once the screenplay is approved for production, students must create the video, based off the screenplay.

Here’s how the project will work:

GROUP CRITERIA: Groups may be made up of 2-5 students each (6 may be considered if you sell me on the need/purpose of it in an individual case). No student will be allowed to work alone on this project. Part of the goal with this project is to encourage collaborative work.

The screenplay will be due by 1:47 p.m. on Friday December 9th, 2016.

(20) Uses proper screenplay format (easily workable when using Celtx)
(20) Includes 4 or more shots/scenes off campus from MHS
(20) Efficiently establishes the simple problem
(15) Includes complications in the process of solving the problem
(15) Finishes with a comfortable resolution for the reader (problem is clearly solved or clearly not solved)
(10) Is 5-7 pages in length

The final video is due by 1:47 p.m. on Thursday January 12th, 2017.

(20) Effectively tells the story/narrative (problem, complication, resolution/solution)
(20) Includes 4 or more shots/scenes off campus from MHS
(20) Creative, attention-getting camera angles
(15) Quality camera work (steady, well-framed shots)
(15) Effective and appropriate audio clarity/mixing
(10) Is no more than 5 minutes in length

Both the Screenplay grade and the Video grade will be major term grades of 200 points each (so whatever grade you get on the screenplay, say a 92, will be doubled and entered as 184/200...same goes for the video, so if your execution scores at an 87, your grade will be entered for that as 174/200).

The document at the link below is in many ways a commercial for Final Draft screenplay software, but at the same time it does a pretty great job of efficiently going over the basics of how to properly format a screenplay. While Final Draft is outstanding software, it is expensive. You can use a free web-based software at [You must be registered and logged in to see this link.] to write your screenplay in proper format.
