Term 3 Telecommunications 1 Project
Students must work in groups to create a music video. Each group’s video must be finished by 1:47p.m. on March 29th. This is a rock-solid, non-negotiable deadline, as we will begin watching and voting on videos the following Monday.
In the first two years of this project, every group made a video to the same song. However, over the past couple years, every group had to make a video to a different song. Each group gets to nominate 2 songs as candidates they’d like to work with for this project.
Your video concept should include symbolism for effect to complement your message, story, or theme. You should keep this in mind while brainstorming your song choices. The concept of your video should not include you singing along to the lyrics (pretending that a song is your own when it’s not); the only reason we should see anyone on screen singing along with the lyrics is if it is being used specifically for effect.
All song nominations must be school appropriate. Songs must be brought in on a flash drive (or given on a YouTube link) so that Shack can review them. If the songs have lyrics, they should be printed out and handed in along with the song files.
If Shack approves one of your songs, that will be what you work with; if he approves both of your songs, the group will choose which one to work with; however, if Shack approves neither one of your songs, he will assign a song for you to work with (which you may or may not enjoy), so be careful in selecting your nominations.
Once videos are completed, students in all Telecommunications classes will vote on all the videos to ultimately award a winner.
GROUP CRITERIA: Groups may be made up of 2-4 students each. No exceptions. No student will be allowed to work alone on this project. Part of the whole goal with this project is to encourage collaborative work.
GRADING CRITERIA (FCA’s):
(25) Uses symbolism/artistry for effect
(20) Includes 4 or more shots clearly off campus from MHS
(20) Creative, Unique, Attention-Getting Camera shots/angles
(15) Utilizes color correction, special effects, or carefully/tastefully chosen video filters
(10) Uses at least 2:00 of the song (not necessarily sequential…any combination of 2:00 works)
(10) Completed on-time
Voters will rate videos 1-5 in the following categories:
• Entertainment Value
• Editing
• Artistry/Symbolism
• Camera/Lighting
• Overall Impression
In the event of a tie, the group most highly rated by Telecommunications 2 classes will win; if results are still tied, the group most highly rated by Mr. Soslow will win (but Soslow will only vote if he is needed to break a tie).
